That One Thing

We’ve talked before about the importance of Esther’s ministry where the scripture records Mordecai’s words, “...you have come to the kingdom for such a time as this”, Es. 4:14. The timing of her placement there is what is pointed out. God went to extensive measures to place her just then, just there.
However, have you ever thought about the fact that Esther had just one thing to do, and how important that ‘one thing’ was to God’s program for His people? God foresaw a threat and
placed her there to do one thing which would not only avert that threat, but also turn it to a
blessing for the Children of Israel.
From that same verse, we can also see that if Esther failed, God had a ‘Plan B’. Mordecai said,“... if you remain completely silent at this time, relief and deliverance will arise for the Jews from another place, but you and your father’s house will perish.” The problem with any ‘Plan B’, though, is that it’s always, less effective, more costly and more risky than ‘Plan A’. And so it was here.
Esther had just one thing to do. And what is that ‘One Thing’ in your life, that thing that is so important that you can say, “... you have come to the kingdom for such a time as this”?
Sometimes it’s a lifelong thing, sometimes for a season. It might be about a ministry, your
family, your church, regarding your job, a gifting He has given you, failing to overcome, a
calling, or any other of a million things He could be urging you about.
Is there laid out a plan? Probably not. I’m sure that Esther didn’t know what she would do until they had all sought the Lord. And I’m not sure that she knew at their first banquet exactly what she would do at the second. However she determined to obey and God moved.
So, what is that ‘One Thing’ that God has given you to do? He’s brought you to the kingdom. And that ‘One Thing’ is surely important to God. Like Esther, He’s placed you just there, just now, for His purposes. If you don’t know, find out what it is. Determine to obey God. And move forward, whether you know His entire plan, or not. His ‘Plan A’ is bound to be a lot more fun than what you’ll get if you force Him to settle for ‘Plan B’.
What is that ‘One Thing’? You have come to the Kingdom for this!
